Friday 8th May, we make our way to Tansley Wood Scout Centre, Off Old Coach Road, Tansley, Matlock, DE4 5FY. What3Words ///loudly.tones.roses, this is a 3 ½ hour trip from Norwich.
The campsite has bunkhouses for 16 people and camping area for a further 20. There is a large communal dining area and a large kitchen. Outside the main building is the toilet and shower block. The campsite is very picturesque with a stream running behind it to send the white-water warriors to sleep. We are also allowed to have a campfire, weather permitting. Once sleeping arrangements have been made, we will head into town for fish and chip supper, there are lots of choices for takeaway.
Saturday 9th May, Breakfast of bacon or sausage roll, then make up packed lunches for a day on the water. We will make our way to Artist Corner Car Park, 146 Dale Road, Matlock Bath, Matlock, DE4 3PS, this is £2.50 for all day and the toilets are now open again. We will spend the majority of the day on the wave across the river from this car park. This is a gentle wave, very surfable but with well-defined eddies and easy rescue points should things go awry. After lunch, depending on progress, we will continue and may go downstream to the slalom course for a taster. Evening meal of pasta bolognaise cooked onsite with hopefully another campfire and marshmallows, plus tall tales.
Sunday 10th May, breakfast of bacon or sausage roll then make up packed lunches for a day on the water. Head back to Artist Corner to drop off boats and then move most cars to Station Yard Car Park, North Parade, Matlock Bath, Matlock, DE4 3NS as this is nearer the slalom site. Return to Artist Corner and put in and warm up on the training wave, then head downstream to the slalom course. Practice breaking in and out on the course. Also ferry climbing is possible depending on water levels and finally some fun on the waves with a bit of surfing and enders. After lunch, pack up boats and head home in convoy.
