Description

. Friday day time paddle starting at Wayford Bridge. Wayford Bridge, Dilham & top end of Barton Broad including the paddle up to Stalham. Date – Friday 24th April 2026.

What – An activity for paddlers of kayaks or canoes to become acquainted with a canal, river and cuts around the top end of Barton Broad including the stretch up to Stalham and its newly installed canoe launching platform.

The intention is to paddle from the car park by the launch point near Wayford Bridge (just off the main Wroxham to Stalham Road) explore the local area and return to the same car park. I’m intending to paddle past Hunsett Mill, and up towards Stalham to view and possibly try out (its FOC) the recently installed canoe launching point established thro the support of the local parish council, Paddle UK and Broads Authority.

For those traveling from Norwich, afterwards there is also the chance to view the new canoe launching platform at Wroxham (at the site of the former launch point, Roy’s car park). I for one want to have a look and see what’s been installed!

This activity is intended for those who already have some paddling experience and I hope enjoy this area, exploring the top end of Barton Broad and the river, and inlets around this area hopefully to visit again with others in the future. Exactly where we go and how far will be determined by those paddling.

Where – Starting from the parish staithe near Wayford Bridge which is just off the River Ant. The car park – is relatively small but can accommodate several cars.

What’s it like? – Its largely stretches of relatively sheltered rivers although there are some open aspects.
