Description

.Eagle Canoe Club- SUNDAY 25th January 2026

What: A day time trip for paddlers with the intention to paddle up to and onto Malthouse Broad (Ranworth) from the starting and finishing point of South Walsham Broad Staithe. The get in is by the slip way close to the (free) public car park. I hope this link shows you the location https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4379038

From the put in the plan is to paddle onto South Walsham and Fairhaven Broad and then towards St Benet’s Abbey (River Bure) before heading towards Malthouse Broad. There are toilets and refreshment facilities at Ranworth NOT at the South Walsham Staithe.

Who is it for: Canoeists or Kayakers. If you can paddle confidently, comfortably and still have some energy to spare up to Hellesdon Mill from the club and back on a club night then you should be Ok for this paddle. An indicative distance for this trip is approx. 9 miles. The exact distance paddled will be determined by paddlers experience and wishes.

The plan will be to be on the water by 1030 hrs.

When : SUNDAY 25th January 2026.
Meet at the club at 0930 hrs with the intention of being away by 0945 hrs.

For those living locally it may, with prior agreement, be possible to meet at the get in point ( TG37221399 ) at 1015 hrs. Please use the public car park nearby. It’s a short distance to carry craft to the put in.

What's involved? Meet at the club, drive to the get in point at South Walsham Staithe. Unload, park up and get afloat. We will return to the get in point.

Do remember to bring a selection of clothing, to cope with whatever weather conditions we experience and a change of clothing should you get wet as well as packed lunch, hot drink and any snacks you like to carry. If you have a Paddle Uk membership ID or and Broad’s Authority licence please bring it.

Interested in coming? Please use the online signing up system, to give me an indication of numbers, what sort of craft you will be paddling and whether you need or can offer a lift for either paddlers or boats.

Many thanks Tim
