Description

Homersfield to Bungay

Date of event: Saturday 11th April

Description of event: a rural touring trip, with the flow, on the narrow upper reaches of the non tidal section of the River Waveney. Solo or tandem canoes, or touring kayaks (no 17’ sea kayaks or SUP’s please).

Length of trip: circa 10 miles. Duration of paddle: circa 4.5 hours on the water plus normal faff & shuttles.

Ability required: a full day on the water with 1 planned portage (there may be others if we come across obstacles across the river), so a good level of paddle ability & fitness is required.

9:30am - Meeting time at Homersfield – W3W – manhole.line.rural – free parking (there is a 2m height barrier here - please advise if this will affect you and i can give an alternative drop off point and manage shuttles more efficiently).

Bungay parking: Staithe Road, Bungay. W3W – trusts.toads.scribble – on street parking so we will only take enough vehicles to shuttle drivers back to Homersfield to collect cars before loading.

Changing facilities / toilets on trip: None

Equipment needed : Your normal paddling kit: Boat, Paddle, Buoyancy Aid, Spray Deck, Kneelers for canoes, good footwear for portage(s), etc (If you need to borrow club equipment please ensure that you take what you need on the previous Wednesday club night).

Suitable clothing: water/wind proofs and spare clothing for the day. Check the forecast before heading out; the wind can cool you quickly when you stop for lunch or snacks. Don’t forget a sun hat and suntan lotion if it is going to be sunny.

For those more experienced paddlers, a pruning saw may come in handy.

Lunch, snacks and drink for a full day's paddle

(A few £’s for parking just in case we have to use Scales Street car park.)

Any medical kit you may need during the day

Waterproof containers, dry bags for spare clothes etc. Please make sure it fits in your boat.

A trolley is optional, as we will all work together as a team on any portages. If you have any injuries which will limit participation in portaging please advise at sign up.

This paddle is not on Broads Authority waters so no need to bring your BA membership card.

When you sign up for the trip, please advise if you would be happy for me to arrange lift shares for the group (or made your own sharing arrangements) so that we can keep our environmental impact as low as possible.
