A there-and-back trip from Horsey Staithe, across Horsey Mere and Hickling Broad, with the pub at Hickling Heath our half way point. The trip is suitable for all those canoeists and kayakers capable of 8 miles (12km) in total. Note that Horsey Mere and Hickling Broad are wide open bodies of water, so some experience here would be a good idea too. To that end, I'm going to suggest that paddlers should have all their own kit for this one.
We'll meet at the get-in, the National Trust carpark at Horsey, for 10am. No need to shuttle cars, so we can hopefully fairly soon be on the water. We'll aim to be at the top end of Hickling by noon, and I propose a quick pint at the pub would be a nice way to support Norfolk Wildlife Trust, which owns the place, as well as crucial rehydration of course! Once done, we'll hop back on the water and head back to Horsey. NB I'm not anticipating eating at the pub.
Be sure to bring kit suitable for the weather. I'll check closer to the time, but we'll be weather-dependent; too much wind will see us having to rethink.
